Northside Baptist Church Doctrinal Statement
We Believe That The Bible (The King James 1611 Bible, any edition)
Is The Word of God
, just like it says. We
believe that the King James Bible is the word of God; the Holy Scriptures. All
sixty-six books of the Bible are complete. We believe the Holy Scriptures of
the Old and New Testament are the inspired word of God. The Scriptures (every
word) are inerrant, infallible, perfect, pure, the inspired word of God. We
believe God has preserved His word from the beginning of time (Psalm 12:6-7;
119:89). Therefore, the Bible is our final authority concerning all matters of
faith and practice. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official
and only translation endorsed, used and supported at Northside Baptist Church in
preaching, teaching, and all printed literature (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter
1:20-21). We reject all other versions that are based on the critical text (the
Alexandrian Text—came out of Alexandria, Egypt—Acts 6:9; 18:24-28) underlying
them such as the American King James, King Jame 2, NKJV, Douay Rheims, NIV,
TNIV, ASV, NASV, NAB, HSCB, NCV, NEV, TEV, UBST, AMP, CEB, CJB, CEV, RSV, NRSV,
NWT, New Jerusalem Bible, Good News for Modern Man, Bible in Rhyme, TLB, The
Evidence Bible, Green Bible, and The Princess Diana Bible. We also reject these
Greek Texts; Nestle Aland, VBS, Pierpoint-Robinson, Hodge-Farstad, Westcott
& Hort, Tischendorf, Griesbach, Tregelles, Colineas, Erasmus, Beza-Folioj 6
sm, Stephanus, Elzevir, Fell, Saubert, Mill, Bently, Wells, Mace, Bengal,
Wettstein, Lachmann, Lloyd, and Scriverer; along with the Vaticanus and the
Sinaiticus. We also reject The Apocrypha as holy Scripture and only
recognize it as being part of history, as the King James translators did in 1611.
This is ONLY a sample. We do not reject other translations based on the
KJV 1611. (Ecclesiastes 8:4; Psalm 12:6-7; Psalm 19:7-10; 119; Proverbs 30:5-6;
Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:14-16; Hebrews 4:12-13; 2 Peter 1:16-21;
Revelation 22:18-19) We are NOT TR (Textus Receptus or Received Text) believers
though we support that line of manuscripts (Antioch Text). We are KING JAMES
BIBLE BELIEVERS. When the TR disagrees with the KJB (and it does in 150 places)
we stand with the King James Bible; making the TR in error.
We Believe That Jesus Is The Son Of God.
He was supernaturally begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of a
virgin, is truly totally God, truly totally man, and yet without sin (Matthew
1:20-21; Luke 1:30-36; 2:10-11; John 1:1-15, Philippians 2:5-8; Colossians
1:15). He is the only begotten Son of God (John 1;14; 3:16,18; I John 4:9) and
at the same time God the Son; therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ, sinless,
omnipotent, omniscient, Saviour of sinners, King of kings, and Lord of lords.
We reject the cults who preach and teach that Jesus is not God and that He was
a created god; such as the Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, Islam. Hebrews 1:1-10
We Believe In The Trinity.
Though the word Trinity is
never found in the Bible, the doctrine is. God is a Person, eternally existing
as a Trinity in unity-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are co-eternal in
being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and have the same
attributes and perfections (I John 5:7; Matthew 28:19; Deuteronomy 6:4; II Corinthians
8:6; 13:14; John 14:10,26). To deny one is to deny all three.
We Believe That Man Was Created in the image of God
; he sinned, bringing not only physical death, but also spiritual
death and separation from God. Now all mankind is totally depraved, having
inherited a sinful nature, is bent toward sinning, and has become sinful; in
thought, word, and deed. Therefore, he (man) is born in the image of man not God (Genesis
1:26, 27; 2:16, 17; 3:6-19; 5:1-3; Romans 3:10-23; 6:23) until he (his spirit) is born again making him a new creature in Christ.
We Believe That salvation
is totally a gift of God
brought to man by grace through faith, not of works for the born again
believer. We believe salvation is offered to all men freely (not just
Baptist or the elect), that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for the
sins of every sinner and shed his precious blood at Calvary, was buried, and
rose again the third day. Jesus is our Substitute for our redemption;which
thereby paid our sin debt and purchased our salvation for us. All who
place their faith in Him alone, and repent of being a sinner are saved by His
shed blood (I Corinthians 15:1-4; Colossians 1:14; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 5:9;
Acts 4:12; John 3:16-18, 36). A sinner is saved by believing/trusting in what
Christ has done for them; described as the Gospel of Jesus Christ—the death, the
burial, and the resurrection. One is not saved by praying, crying, coming
forward, baptism, works, living for the Lord, etc. We reject all false
doctrines of Armenians; a works salvation. We reject all 5 false doctrines of
Calvinism.
We Believe In Eternal Security And The Assurance Of
Believers.
We believe that all the redeemed, once saved,
are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever, and sealed unto
the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). Once saved, always saved. (John
6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1; 38-39; I Corinthians 1:4-8; I Peter 1:4-5). We
believe it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their
salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids
the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh. All believers can
“know” that they are saved, not hope so, or think so (Romans 13:13-14;
Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15; I John 5; 12-13). We reject all false doctrines
of Freewill Baptist, Church of God; that one can lose their salvation.
We Believe In The Second Coming Of Our Lord And Saviour Jesus
Christ;
that blessed hope, the personal, imminent return
of Christ, who will rapture His church prior to the seven-year tribulation
period. This could happen at any moment to catch up His Church (the Body of
Christ) and to reward their service to Him. The unbelievers are left behind to
go through the seven year Tribulation Period, after which Christ shall return
with His saints to the earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years of
righteous rule. After this, the unbelievers of all ages will stand at the Great
White Throne Judgement to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated
from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in
Heaven with the Lord. (Daniel 2:31-45; Matthew 24:29-42; I Thessalonians 1:10;
4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10; 19:11-20:15)
We Believe That God Is The Creator Of The universe.
He created the universe and everything therein in six literal,
24-hour periods (days). We reject evolution, the Day-Age Theory, and Theistic
Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin (Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11).
We Believe That Satan Is A Person.
He is the author of sin, a created being and the cause of the
Fall of Man; he is the open and declared enemy of God and man, and he shall be
eternally punished in the Lake of Fire (Job 1:6-7; Isaiah 14:12-17; Matthew
4:2-11; 25:41; Revelation 20:10).
We Believe In A Literal Heaven And Hell.
Heaven is a real place that is the eternal home of all, who by
faith, claim the salvation of Christ. Hell is a real place that is the eternal
home of all who die without Christ as their Saviour. We believe in the literal,
physical, bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost (I Thessalonians
4:13-18; Revelation 20:5-6), the everlasting blessedness of the saved (Heaven)
(John 14:1-3; Revelation 21-22), and the everlasting conscious punishment of
the lost (Hell) where the worm dieth not (Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20:11-15).
We Believe In Scriptural Baptism.
Scriptural baptism is always public, obedience to the Lord’s
command, and by immersion (after salvation). Baptism does not save, but it is
the Lord’s prescribed way for us to identify ourselves with Him in open
confession. Baptism is a symbolic representation; a picture of the death,
burial and resurrection of Christ (Matthew 10:32-33; 28:18-20; Luke 9:23; Acts
16:30-34; Romans 10:9-10). We reject all false doctrine and acts of water
baptism taught or performed by Catholics. One does not have to be baptized to
go to heaven, but they do have to be baptized to be obedient.
We Believe That The Only Legitimate Marriage Is A Biblical
Marriage
, which is the joining of one man and one woman
(Genesis 2:24; Romans 7:2; I Corinthians 7:10; Ephesians 5:22-23).
We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position
before God, but that God has ordained distinct and separate spiritual functions
for men and women in the home and the church. The husband is to be the leader
of the home and men are to be the leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church
(Genesis 3:16; Colossians 3:18; I Timothy 2:8-15; 3:4-5, 12).
We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity
be engaged outside of a marriage including oral sex, or anything that includes
the sexual parts of the body (Exodus 20:14; Hebrews 13:4; I Corinthians 7:1-5;
Matthew 19:4-60).
We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism,
bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography
are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex
(Gen. 2:24; 19:5; 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1;
6:9; I Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4).We believe that God disapproves of
and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance.
We Believe God Ordained Civil Government.
We believe that God has ordained and created all authority
consisting of three basic institutions:
1) The home
2) The church
3) The
state
Every person is subject to these authorities, but all (including
the authorities themselves) are answerable to God and governed by His word. God
has given each institution specific Biblical responsibilities. The home, the
church, and the state are equal and sovereign in their respective Biblically
assigned spheres of responsibility under God (Romans 13:1-7; Ephesians 5:22-24;
Hebrews 13:17; I Peter 2. 13-14).
We Believe In Biblical Separation.
We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not
to bring reproach upon their Saviour and Lord. God commands His people to
separate from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures,
practices, and associations; also to refrain from all immodest and immoderate
appearances such as body piercing, bodily markings, alcohol, drugs, smoking,
men with long hair, women with shaved hair like a man, and cursing (Romans
12:1-2; 14:13; 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; 2 John
9-11; Leviticus 19:28; I Corinthians 6:19-20). We make no apology nor are we
ashamed of our conservative beliefs in many areas including music, social
issues, dress, and behavior. We welcome all who come to our doors, but we give
no place on our platform to honor or to hear the opinions and the views of
those who do not hold to “sound doctrine” (I Timothy 1:3). With this in view,
we oppose the widespread popular practice of ecumenism (getting theologically
diverse groups together for the sake of fellowship, for the cause of evangelism,
and for the exercise of their ministries together).
We Believe That The Church Is The Bride Of Christ.
We believe that the church is the body and the espoused bride of
Christ; is solely made up of born-again believers (I Corinthians 12:12-14; 2
Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-27). We reject the false teaching of
the “Baptist Bride.” We believe that the establishment and continuance of local
churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts
14:27; 20:17,28-32; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11). We believe in the autonomy
of the local church free of any external authority, association, convention or
control (Acts 13:1-4; 15:19-31; 20:28; Romans 16:1,4; I Corinthians 3:9,16;
5:4-7; I Peter 5:1-4). We recognize water baptism and the Lord’s Supper as the
Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church in this age (Matthew
28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42; 18:18; I Corinthians 11:23-26). We believe that the
Lord’s Supper is the commemoration; by the use of unleavened bread and of the
fruit of the vine; (not fermented wine or alcohol), of the death of Christ
until He comes again, and that it is to be preceded always by solemn
self-examination (I Corinthians 11:23-28). The Lord's Supper is not kept to
take us to Heaven, but to thank Jesus for His sacrifice. We reject all false
doctrine taught and practiced by the Catholic Church on this issue.
We Believe That Abortion Is Murder
under all circumstances. We believe that human life begins at
conception and the unborn child is a living human being with a living soul.
Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. We
reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth
defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the mental or
physical well-being of the mother are acceptable (Job 3:16; Psalms 51:5;
139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1,5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44).
We Believe In Biblical Stewardship.
We believe the Scriptures teach all believers to give tithes (at
least 10%) and offerings from our income and resources into the Lord’s treasury
in the local church and that all of us have a responsibility before God to be
faithful every week in our stewardship to a Biblical local church not a
ministry (Malachi 3:8-10; Matthew 23:23; I Corinthians 16:1-2).
We Believe In Faithfulness To The Lord’s Day.
We believe that Sunday, the first day of the week, is the Lord’s
Day. It is therefore a sacred and special day. We reject the modern teaching of
not having church on Sunday nights or a midweek service. It should be a day of
worship of the Lord and service to Him, as well as a day of respect and rest
from the ordinary routines of life (John 20:1,19,26; I Corinthians 16:2;
Hebrews 10:25).
We Believe In World Evangelism.
We
believe the Lord’s Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15: John 20:21;
Acts 1:8; Romans 10:13-15) is His command to us to get the Gospel to the world.
We further believe that when we follow Christ appropriately and obediently we
will be a “fisher of men” (Matthew 4:19).
