John 3:7 “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
First, you must admit that you are a sinner and have sinned. Romans 3:10-18 "As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out
of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an
open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full
of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way
of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes." Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and
come short of the glory of God;" All men are born sinners. You don't have to teach a baby to sin, or a young child to
lie. They are born with the sin nature. We get our sin nature from Adam. Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man
sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" If you
don’t see the condition of your soul being lost and in a sinful state you will see no need to come to Christ. Therefore,
before you can come to Jesus you must admit that you are a sinner, before you can ever be saved.
Secondly, you must recognize that your sin demands a payment that you cannot pay yourself. The Bible says in
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The
word "wages" means payment. Someone has to pay for our sin. There has to be a perfect sacrifice. We are sinners
and far from being perfect, therefore, we cannot die for our own sins, or anyone else's. James 1:15 "Then when lust
hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." This death is not just
physical death. It certainly is not spiritual since the unsaved man is already spiritually dead. It is a physical death,
where the soul of man is separated from God for all eternity in the lake of fire, where it will never be quenched, to
pay for his sin. Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire
and brimstone: which is the second death." Before you can be saved you must recognized the awful condition of no
hope in yourself to be saved.
Thirdly, you must acknowledge that Christ died for you and your sins. Jesus is the payment for our sins. Since you
cannot die for yourself, someone who was the perfect sacrifice had to die in your place. Romans 5:6-9 "For when we
were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet
peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from
wrath through him." Because Jesus died for us and our sins we are saved from the wrath of God, and the payment
for sin if we believe (trust) on Jesus Christ. We no longer have to die and go to hell. Our debt has been paid. 1 John
4:10 "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our
sins." The word propitiation means that God is satisfied with the payment for our sins, and for the sins of the whole
world. That payment was Jesus’ precious blood. 1 John 2:2 "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours
only, but also for the sins of the whole world." God is fully satisfied by what Jesus Christ did on the Cross. The
penalty for His broken law and man's sin has been fully satisfied through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Fourth, you must believe/trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour and repent of your sin of unbelief. You see, a lost
sinner does not go to hell because of the sins he commits. Those sins have been paid for with the blood of
Jesus on the cross, but he goes to hell for the one thing he does not commit, the sin of omission, unbelief. In John
3:15-18 Jesus said, “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not
believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” You see, there is only one unpardonable sin. That’s the sin of
unbelief; it cannot be forgiven because the blood does not cover it. When a person dies in unbelief there is no
second chance, it cannot be forgiven. Five times the word “believeth” is used by Jesus to tell us what a sinner must
do to be saved. Notice that God “gave his only begotten Son” Jesus to die for our sins, because he loved you. Then
notice that those who believe are not condemned, but only those who do not believe. Notice also that you and all of
mankind are condemned already because we are born sinners, in unbelief. So it’s the sin of unbelief that condemns
us to God’s wrath in hell and not our sins. The sin of unbelief is the unpardonable sin that cannot be forgiven once a
man dies. One must believe on Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour to be saved, to receive eternal life, God’s free
gift. You do not have to confess your sins. You do not have to pray a prayer. You do not have to repeat after me. You
do not have to repent of all your sins. You do not have to go to the alter. You do not have to ask Jesus to come into
your heart. You simply have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and what he has done for you at the cross. You
cannot just believe in Jesus. The Bible tells us that even the devils believe in him. Believing in him, means you
believe that Jesus historically existed on this earth some two thousand years ago. Believing in Jesus is with the
head; it’s head knowledge. But believing on Him, means trusting him as your only payment for your sin of unbelief
to get you to heaven, believing that he was buried and rose again in three days as he promised is totally different.
Believing on Jesus is from the heart; it’s a step beyond head knowledge.
What I have given you above is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul tells us what the Gospel is in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and
wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have
believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the
scriptures:”
Last of all, you may then ask, “What must I do to be saved?” There was a man in the Bible who was a prison guard
in a Philippian jail guarding Paul and Silas after they had been beaten for preaching the gospel. While Paul and Silas
werre singing and praising the Lord, God shook the prison bars open, scaring the Philippian Jailer awake. Listen to
what happens next: Acts 16:27-31 “And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison
doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But
Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in,
and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be
saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” This is the clearest
place found in Scripture where both the question of what a sinner must do to be saved and where the Holy Spirit of
God gives his answer. The question: “What must I do to be saved?” You cannot get any plainer than that. The
answer: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” Plain and simple that is what you must do.
Nothing more or nothing less. No mention of water baptism, church membership, being a good person, serving, or
tithing is mentioned as a way to heaven.
Friend you don't have to die and go to hell. God has done everything for you.
